| About A Great
American Balloon Company Las Vegas
The pinnacle of your visit
to Las Vegas and the Southwest will be your travel through champagne air viewing
Mother Earth as she begins or ends her day.
A
Great American Balloon Company – Las Vegas invites you to
participate in an experience of a lifetime; that of the high
adventure of a magical balloon flight.Your adventure begins
with your transport back to the Old West by traveling through
one of three Red Rock Canyon passes that slices through the
Spring Mountains forming the western perimeter of the Las
Vegas basin. Observed along the way will be the magnificent
escarpment of the Red Rock cliffs. Your destination
is our balloonport at Pahrump, NV.
Pahrump (a Southern Paiute
word which means “water rock” or “place where big waters flow;” the entire
Pahrump Valley sits a on a huge aquifer of about 22 million acre-feet of water)
has been carefully selected for your balloon flight due to its safe, flyable
weather conditions. It is a desert oasis with a feeling of the Old West.
Pahrump is also the “Gateway to Death Valley” with many points of interest
nearby.
The Pahrump Valley is the
driest region in the nation. The Valley has the lowest relative humidity and at
least 216 sunny days each year, second only to Yuma, AZ. Indeed, 82% or 300
days a year are, on average, classified as sunny to partly cloudy. Therefore,
and as opposed to Las Vegas, when you book a flight with A Great American
Balloon Company – Las Vegas, be prepared to fly!
-
During
the first hour, you will arrive at our pre-determined
meeting site. You will be met by your Federal Aviation
Administration licensed pilot, your ground crew and fellow
passengers. At the ascent site, our pilot and crew
will prepare the hot air balloon system for flight.
You will enjoy observing, taking pictures and even helping
in this event of pageantry and color.
- During
your second hour, you will be in flight. Only punctuated
by the occasional heating of the air within the balloon
envelope, you will revel in the peace, calm and scenery
that panoramically unfolds before you. Your initial
emotions are soon overcome by a sense of awe, majesty and
grace; the magical experience of hot air balloon flight
envelopes you!
- Your flight will be over the Mojave Desert, the smallest of the North American
deserts (the Great Basin, Sonoran, Chihuahuan are larger). The land below you
is an area where the Southern Paiutes lived according to archeological records
dating back to 900 A.D. The Mojave Desert is not as barren as perhaps
thought. It is teeming with life and beauty that are rare and unique. From red
tailed hawks overhead to the colors and shadows of the desert floor, every
passing moment offers a new memory. Of the animal life, coyote, gray fox,
bobcat, kangaroo rat, blacktail jack rabbit, desert cottontail and even
migrating desert big horn sheep are found in the area. (Of interest: the
kangaroo rat is aptly named for its habit of hopping rather than running. It
does not drink, use dew or eat succulent foods. Its only source of moister
comes from metabolic water, i.e., water produced through the digestion of food!)
- During
the third hour, your safe landing will be met by your ground
crew. As congratulations and smiles are exchanged,
the glow of adventure will continue as your pilot and crew
prepare for your ceremonial champagne toast and classic
regional d'oeuvres. Your journey will conclude as we drive
along the desert floor to your initial meeting site.
